风和日丽的日子里，有些木讷呆板的青年（巴斯特·基顿BusterKeaton饰）和一群绅士贵妇打高尔夫球，虽然极想在心仪的女孩面前大出风头，但是青年委实霉运当头，或者挥杆落空跌倒在地，或者小球直接掉入水里，好不容易打到最后一杆，小球又被多事的小狗叼走，甚至连一群老妇人都要找他的麻烦。当然，这些还都不算什么，更大的灾难等在后面。 某监狱，编号13的囚犯越狱逃亡，引来大群狱警追捕。他逃到高尔夫球场附近，刚好看见昏倒在地的青年，于是将自己的条纹囚服穿在了青年身上。过了一会儿，青年醒来，还在自顾自地打着高尔夫球，却不知道自己已经成了即将被送上绞刑架的囚犯……
